Your data is never held hostage.
Loading a context by its handle, reading and editing in the web app, downloading your Markdown, deleting anything, and revoking a connected client or a share are free on every plan, in every billing state — even if a payment lapses or you cancel. If you go over a cap, only new saves and new shares pause; everything you've already stored stays fully yours to read and take with you, and every share you've already sent keeps working.
Sharing out is a Pro feature. Reading what someone shared with you is not: opening or downloading a context shared with you is never paywalled and never requires an account, whatever plan anyone is on. And if a Pro subscription lapses, every share already sent keeps working — only new ones pause.
Publishing a public handoff is free on every plan. The two are different jobs, not two sizes of the same one: a public handoff is a read-only snapshot at a link you can post anywhere, with no named recipient and no expiry, and it's how a useful context travels. Sending one privately to a named person — with their identity on it, a live grant that follows your edits, a confirmation step, an expiry, and an access log — is the Pro capability. Neither one ever exposes your private handle.
